Journalist shares behind-the-scenes image of Elland Road with 15,000 crowdies installed
Elland Road looks immaculate as Leeds United prepare to return to their home for the first time in over three months on Saturday.
Leeds face Fulham in a huge fixture that pits the Championship’s second-placed club against third, with a seven-point gap between them.
There won’t be any fans at Elland Road to cheer on the Whites as they aim to bounce back to winning ways after their defeat to Cardiff but there will be 15,000 ‘crowdies’.
Former Sky Sports journalist Bryn Law has shared an image inside Elland Road ahead of Saturday’s match, showing how good the installation of the crowdies looks.
It was a great idea by Leeds to do something like this.
While it will not be the same as playing in front of a live crowd, egging the team on for 90 minutes, this is without doubt the next best thing and sees the club generate some money in the process.
Of course, the idea did have its setback when Osama bin Laden was put into the crowd by mistake but that has since been removed and hopefully there are no more questionable characters in the stands this weekend.
It remains to be seen how playing at an empty Elland Road will affect Leeds.
Normally, the crowd acts as the 12th man and the atmosphere really fires up the team.
But there will also be less pressure with no crowd and some players might thrive under that.
Let’s wait and see but so far, both Leeds and Fulham have lost their one and only behind-closed-doors fixture.
