The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has shed more light on speculation that has linked Leeds United with a move for Norwich star Emiliano Buendia.
Read Norwich reported earlier this week that Leeds have made an enquiry about the 23-year-old Argentine, who helped the Canaries win the Championship title last season and has continued impressing in the Premier League.
Former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay has since reported that while Buendia is certainly someone who Leeds like the look of, no concrete move has been made for him as of yet.
“[He’s] definitely someone they’re aware of, although I don’t think, at this stage, somebody that they’d be dead set on going for. [Leeds are] absolutely interested in him in the sense that they like him, and they like his ability and I do, too,” Hay told the Talking Shutt podcast.
We would love to see Buendia in a Leeds shirt next season.
Norwich are likely to get relegated and could be replaced by the Whites in the Premier League so the player could be keen on the move to link up with fellow Argentine Marcelo Bielsa.
The South American playmaker has not scored this season in the Premier League bu has still managed to assist seven goals in 30 appearances.
He is ranked joint-seventh in the league this season for the number of assists and his eight big-chance creations matches the records of Sadio Mane and Nicolas Pepe.
Not bad for a player at a team who is bottom of the Premier League.
Buendia just seems like the kind of player who would thrive under Bielsa and we’re not just saying that because he’s Argentine.
He reminds us of Pablo Hernandez and that is always a good thing.
