Journalist moots ban for Patrick Bamford after what he did for Leeds United v QPR

Darren Witcoop has questioned whether Patrick Bamford could face a ban for what he did for Leeds United against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday (4 October).

The Rs’ keeper Asmir Begovic was sent off for a foul on the forward in injury time as the Whites secured a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Crysencio Summerville goal in the first half.

The Sunday Mirror journalist Witcoop tweeted on Wednesday that the 30-year-old definitely took a “dive”, but he said the Bosnian stopper’s reaction to the red card may “land him in trouble” and suggested he could receive a ban for that alone.

“Watching Asmir Begovic sending off again, Bamford ‘the cheat’ as called by QPR commentator has defo taken a dive. Not sure if [he] could face FA ban for that,” he said.

“But even if Begovic escapes, his reaction to [the] red card could land him in trouble and could get a ban for just that.”

Harsh

The criticism of Bamford following this incident has been pretty harsh because you can clearly see that he is just trying to get out of the way of a high challenge from Begovic.

Although there is no contact, if the forward didn’t move, then the Bosnian could’ve caused a serious injury with the way he came rushing out to get the ball.

It isn’t a red card because it shouldn’t have been a foul in the first place, but that doesn’t mean that the Englishman took a dive – the situation isn’t clear-cut.

It’s ridiculous, quite frankly, to even suggest that Bamford could face a ban and it’s likely people are just jumping on the bandwagon because he isn’t the most popular player given his previous actions.

But in this instance, he wasn’t looking to cheat and he shouldn’t be vilified for just trying to get out of the way of what could have been a dangerous challenge.

In other Leeds United news, a defender has been ruled out until after the international break.
