Daniel Farke has shared an update on when Junior Firpo could return to training with the rest of the Leeds United squad.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against QPR on Wednesday (4 October), the Whites boss said (via the Yorkshire Evening Post) that the 27-year-old will be back training after the international break.

The Dominican defender has recovered from the knee injury that has kept him out since the start of the summer, but a hamstring problem is currently sidelining him.

An option

There is no doubt that Firpo has really divided opinion at Leeds since he joined the club from Barcelona in the summer of 2021 for a fee in the region of £12.8million plus add-ons.

His time at Elland Road hasn’t quite worked out as he would’ve hoped after missing a large chunk of the two seasons he's spent at the club with different injuries.

The left-back made 25 appearances in all competitions last season, where he scored two goals and laid on two assists as his side were relegated from the Premier League.

But he is yet to feature under Farke during this campaign and, given the form of Sam Byram and the versatility of Jamie Shackleton to seamlessly slot in on the left side of the defence, it could be tricky for Firpo to get much playing time.

But he will provide another option for the Whites boss once he's up to speed and opportunitities could potentially open up for the defender to prove his worth as the season goes on.
