Journalist hails Leeds United signing Sonny Perkins after goal footage emerges

Leeds United summer signing scored his third goal in three U-21 games and that’s led to LeedsLive journalist Joe Donnohue waxing lyrical over him.

Footage emerged from the game on Friday and that shows the former West Ham forward scoring a belter of a left-footed finish.

The Whites signed him this summer under protest from the Hammers after his agent decided to force a move while he was still on contract at the London Stadium.

Via Twitter, Donnohue wrote, “Sonny Perkins looking like a very shrewd addition for #LUFC U21s if this finish is anything to go by. Three in three. Talk about hitting the ground running.”

First-team ready soon?

Perkins does have first-team experience at the Hammers even though he made just the solitary appearance there.

He trained with the seniors for a number of months and it seemed like he was ready to be a regular part of the matchday squad there.

However, he left the club under questionable circumstances and he certainly would have envisaged a quicker route to first-team football at Elland Road.

With three goals in three games and a striker crisis at Leeds, Jesse Marsch may look to include him with the senior players at least until a new striker is signed.

It would make a world of sense to even throw Perkins off the bench when the Whites are chasing a goal late on in games.

We’re keeping a keen eye on his progress and are hoping that he gets his chance sooner rather than later as he’s proving that he deserves it.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites could make a final push for an international striker after he was left out of his side’s matchday squad over the weekend.
