Journalist addresses claims that Raphinha could stay at Leeds United despite Chelsea and Barcelona interest

Ben Jacobs has refuted all reports that are suggesting Raphinha could stay at Leeds United beyond this summer window.

TEAMtalk reported in July that he could still stay at Elland Road as Barcelona are struggling to match the Whites’ financial demands.

Even though Chelsea are ready to pay whatever Leeds want for the Brazilian up front, it was understood that they could wait until January to sanction the sale.

Speaking on the Football Terrace, the CBS Sports journalist said, “It’s bizarre. Reports are saying that Leeds will wait and sell him to Barcelona in January are nonsense. Leeds are open to a different payment scheme in terms of instalments.

“So, if Barcelona do not have the money now, they will not have the money in January either as they’re not paying it all up front.

“Chelsea’s tactic is to give Leeds money at all once and push Barca out of the market.

“The deadline today is for Barcelona to table a bid, which according to my information, will be the latest and not the last offer.”

Sell him to the highest bidder

Leeds cannot afford to do whatever to keep Raphinha happy and must instead look to sell him to the highest bidder.

As things stand, it’s Chelsea and we do not think that Barcelona are going to suddenly be able to offer all the money upfront to Leeds.

The sensible thing to do is give Barcelona a deadline and if they cannot pay up, then sell him to the Blues and get done with it.

From a financial standpoint too, it will be better for Leeds to get the money all at once as they can reinvest it in this window.

There have already been six new signings and the club will be hoping to get in at least two more before the market shuts.

In other Leeds United, a Whites defender heavily admired by Marcelo Bielsa could permanently seal his permanent exit this summer with there being genuine interest in his services.
