John Percy: Kalvin Phillips on verge of new Leeds contract

Kalvin Phillips is on the verge of signing a new long-term contract with Leeds United, according to John Percy.

The Telegraph journalist has shared the huge update on Thursday afternoon, with the agreement expected very soon.

Phillips has been strongly linked with Manchester United over the past week, with this announcement set to bring an end to that.

The Telegraph shared the news on their official Twitter account this afternoon, with it set to leave fans buzzing around Elland Road.

It has been heavily reported that this new contract could make the Yorkshire Pirlo the highest-paid player at the club [90min].

With Raphinha and Patrick Bamford said to be on around £70,000-a-week, Phillips could be the first to breach the £100,000-a-week mark.

Brilliant.

This is the news that everyone has been waiting for.

Marcelo Bielsa himself was speaking about Phillips in his press conference this afternoon ahead of the Watford game and made it clear he was a huge fan.

El Loco backed the Yorkshire Pirlo to remain an icon and idol at the club for many years to come, no matter if he leaves to move elsewhere or sticks around.

There is no questioning that Phillips has been transformed into a world-class player, and that is only going to help Leeds and even England in the years to come.

Having this stability surrounding his future too will lead to those links likely disappearing and allow him to concentrate on what’s happening on the pitch rather than off it.

That announcement looks as though it is getting closer.
