Joey Barton blown away by Leeds United fans v Arsenal

Joey Barton has been left stunned by the support shown by Leeds United fans.

The Whites suffered their third defeat in a row after losing 4-1 against Arsenal in the Premier League clash at Elland Road on Saturday.

Two goals from Gabriel Martinelli helped the Gunners secure the win against an injury-hit Leeds side.

Apart from Raphinha’s late consolation, there was hardly anything to feel positive about Leeds. Except for the fans who were amazing throughout the game.

Barton wrote on Twitter: “Some atmosphere at Elland Road, Leeds 4-1 down at home. After losing 7-0 at Man City. Not (a) bad period but they recognise the progress under Bielsa and stick with their team. Proper fans.

“Good to see. Rare in modern era of support.”

Crisis

Barton is spot on here.

Leeds fans have been amazing. They always have been.

During the 7-0 defeat against Manchester City, the away fans kept signing and supported the team.

The Whites were very poor against the Gunners, but Leeds fans have shown their full support to Marcelo Bielsa despite the result.

The fans do realise that the Whites are going through an injury crisis at the moment and that Bielsa is struggling to put up a strong squad.

The results haven’t gone according to the plans, but there is a hope that it will improve gradually once their key players start returning.

At the moment, the squad is down to bare bones, especially the defence.

Liam Cooper, Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk are out injured. Luke Ayling picked up an illness while Junior Firpo missed the game against the Gunners due to suspension.

Youngster Charlie Cresswell also picked up a shoulder injury in training.

Likewise, Patrick Bamford and Kalvin Phillips, two of Leeds’s top players, are also injured at the moment.

The fans are trying their best to support their team, but Bielsa needs his players to turn things around.
