Leeds want Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie in January
Leeds United are interested in bringing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie to Elland Road in January, according to The Sun.
The USA international, 23, is available for around £20million, but the Whites could struggle to land him as he wants to stay and fight for his place at Turin.
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon claims that McKennie “is in their price range”, and the west Yorkshire outfit will be hoping they can get their hands on him in a bid to strengthen their squad for the second half of 2021-22.
Marcelo Bielsa is not a fan of the January transfer window, but several injuries have left him with no choice from the look of things.
England international midfielder Kalvin Phillips is already out of action for the rest of the calendar year, and while he could return in January, Leeds want to bring in another midfielder.
McKennie is unable to force his way into Juventus’ star-studded line-up, and while involving himself in a potential relegation battle at Leeds would not be tempting, the opportunity to prove himself in the Premier League could see him agree to a switch.
The Whites squad needs to be strengthened if they want to stay up, and the American has what it takes to improve their midfield.
Adam Forshaw has been brilliant since returning from a career-threatening injury, but he struggled against Manchester City and Arsenal, and McKennie has the potential to be an upgrade.
The former Schalke 04 star needs to move where he can play regularly to reach his full potential, and Elland Road could be providing him with such a chance in the coming weeks.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have mapped out plans to avoid relegation scrap as January transfer budget claim emerges.
