Joe Rodon development at Leeds United amazes BBC pundit

BBC Sport pundit and former player Helen Ward has hailed “terrific” Joe Rodon for the way he has developed his game at Leeds United.

Rodon joined Leeds from Tottenham on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window, having impressed during a season on loan in 2023-24.

The Wales international was a rock in the heart of defence as his national side drew 0-0 away in Turkey on Saturday (17 November).

And covering the game for BBC Radio Wales [17 November, 5:50pm], Ward outlined the improvements made by the centre-back, helped by playing regularly for Leeds.

“Joe Rodon has really matured compared to his early days playing for Wales where he didn’t have as much experience playing at a higher level and he would make silly mistakes,” she said.

“He was overly aggressive and would do some loose passing, but since he’s been playing regularly for Leeds he’s been terrific and shown some real maturity about his game.”

Joe Rodon a consistent present for Leeds United

Signing Rodon on loan from Tottenham last season was considered a big coup for Leeds – arguably even more so when making that deal permanent this past summer.

The 27-year-old is a Premier League player in everything but name, and he will no doubt intend to return to that level in a Leeds shirt.

Rodon has started all 15 Championship matches for Leeds this season – only two other outfield players have done likewise – and he has also been a regular for Wales.

Daniel Farke will perhaps be concerned about overplaying the defender, especially considering his international exertions over recent months.

Leeds United
Joe Rodon’s future is up in the air and he is no guarantee to return to Leeds United next season.

However, when you have a player like Rodon fit and well, there is no doubt you select him.

Rodon was a great player when arriving at Elland Road and is arguably now even better. Let’s hope this development continues in a Leeds shirt.
