Jesse Marsch to jet out to South America in Leeds United World Cup break - Phil Hay

Jesse Marsch is set to grant himself a small break away from Leeds United with a trip to Peru on the cards for American, as revealed by The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

However, work duties will not be at the forefront of his mind with the 48-year-old instead attending a wedding where he is taking up best man duties.

It appears he has managed to buy himself more time at Elland Road after chaotic back-to-back wins against Bournemouth and Liverpool.

Marsch won’t be thinking about his small vacation until after Leeds’ trip to Tottenham to bring their Premier League season to a halt during the World Cup break.

“I’ll start working on it, maybe, the day after the final whistle at Tottenham,” said Marsch (Phil Hay, 5 November).

Needed

It’s fair to say you cannot blame the American for taking a day or two to recover from what has been a blood and thunder-start to the Premier League season.

Leeds don’t do things the easy way with yet another back-and-forward game against the Cherries, which eventually ended in the Whites snatching a late victory. Had Bournemouth held on, the Liverpool game would’ve been quickly forgotten by the fans.

The first-half performance wasn’t acceptable and Marsch’s side were extremely fortunate not to have gone further behind. However, the American deserves credit for his intuitive substitutions, with Sam Greenwood getting a goal and an assist, and Willy Gnonto playing a vital part in Crysencio Summerville’s winner.

The World Cup break could well come a great time for Leeds, with the 47-year-old almost certain to hold onto his job. He now has a month to get his side performing in a more consistent way, which in hand stems the Whites’ very leaky defence.
