Jesse Marsch tells Willy Gnonto if he will be playing for Leeds United v Brentford

Jesse Marsch has told new Leeds United signing Wilfried Gnonto that he won’t be involved in the Premier League clash against Brentford this weekend.

The Italian international met his new head coach in the past 24 hours after arriving at Thorp Arch, but he will be straight back to Switzerland instead.

Marsch has allowed Gnonto to return to his old home to get himself together and settled, as well as bringing across his personal belongings before coming back to England on Monday.

Speaking in their first meeting together, as shared on the official Leeds Twitter account, Marsch let it slip that Gnonto won’t be with the squad tomorrow.

“That’s what we are thinking,” he said.

“We’ll send you back over the weekend, you can have the weekend to get yourself more together and settled.”

Wait.

This isn’t the news we were hoping for, with an instant impact needed.

With Dan James now at Fulham on loan, Leeds are one attacking option down, two if you include the injury to Rodrigo that will now keep him out for weeks.

Gnonto was readymade for the squad, but we understand that he needs time to settle being a young player after such a crazy end to the transfer window.

Instead, he will get himself together before returning and likely making a push to prove himself in time for the Premier League showdown with Nottingham Forest at Elland Road the following week.

With that game on the Monday, Gnonto will have a full week in training to catch the eye of Marsch and then get his first taste in front of that home crowd.

We will miss him tomorrow, but hopefully, that will be the only game he misses and both Jack Harrison and Luis Sinisterra can have a huge impact instead.
