Jesse Marsch owes explanation to Leeds United fans after embarrassing Erling Haaland scenes

Leeds United suffered another Premier League defeat as Manchester City piled further pressure on Jesse Marsch’s shoulders at Elland Road.

Two goals from Erling Haaland and one from Rodri saw Pep Guardiola’s side head back to Manchester with a comfortable 3-1 victory. Marsch has previously worked with Haaland during his time at RB Salzburg and the Leeds boss was seen smiling and laughing with the 22-year-old after the defeat.

Further footage has since emerged of Marsch conducting an interview with Haaland for NBC Sports (28 December) after the match. Should Leeds fans be expected an explanation from the American?

He’s obviously close with the Norwegian superstar, but his side have just been comfortably beaten and thrown back into the relegation mix. Surely the 49-year-old would be a little bit more respectful of the club that currently employs him.

If Leeds had somehow won the game, there’s absolutely no way Haaland would’ve been out on the pitch having a friendly catch-up with his former boss. Although Marsch probably means nothing by it, because he’s genuinely a good guy, he potentially needs to read the room slightly better.

Fans don’t want to see their manager embracing opposition players and praising them after their side has just been beaten. They want to see a group of players and a management team who are hurt and disappointed by their performance.
