Jesse Marsch delivers verdict on Leif Davis future at Leeds United

Jesse Marsch admits that he likes Leif Davis but does not know what the future holds for the Leeds United defender.

Leeds named their pre-season squad which did not include the likes of Raphinha and Luke Ayling, but there was also a reason for Junior Firpo’s surprise exclusion.

Davis, who has been linked with a move to Ipswich Town this summer, was the only out-and-out left-back named in the squad.

When asked about his future, Marsch said, per LeedsLive, “I really like Leif.

“I like his attitude, I like his work ethic. He continues to impress, so it’s a little bit too early to say, but I’d just say it’s been very positive with him.”

Keep him

It does not seem like the club has any plan on signing a new left-back this summer, which is baffling, given the struggles in that department last season.

After Gjanni Alioski’s departure, Firpo was signed from Barcelona and he has failed to hit the ground running at Elland Road.

He does not appear to be the same player he was in Spain and we’re hoping that he turns a new leaf next season.

However, hopes do not win football games and Leeds need to be pragmatic in this transfer window.

If Davis is allowed to leave then the Whites must bring in another left-back as good or even better than him who can put pressure on Firpo for a place in the first team.

If the Spaniard does not have someone waiting then he will continue to be picked despite bad performances and that cannot be tolerated in the Premier League.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay claims that a midfielder who was admired by Marcelo Bielsa is set to leave this summer.
