Jermaine Beckford makes Elland Road claim after what Agbonlahor noticed about Leeds United

Jermaine Beckford believes Leeds United are turning Elland Road back into a “fortress” this season.

Leeds travel to Ashton Gate to take on Bristol City on Saturday (26 October) fresh off the back of a 2-1 win against Watford at Elland Road, as the Whites continue a resurgence up the Championship table.

Gabriel Agbonlahor said live on talkSPORT [24 October, 7:45am] that Leeds look a different beast this season, to which Beckford interjected by mentioning the club’s home form.

He said: “That’s three games in a row at home Leeds have won. The Coventry game which is always going to be a little bit of a tricky one, Mark Robins coming in, he’s a really, really good manager got good things going on there.

“Sheffield United, Watford as well. It’s almost turning back into a fortress, a real fortress.

“Last season Leeds kept the most clean sheets and I think lost only one game at home all season. They’re trying to build that back up again this season and create. They’re trying to make sure teams turn up at Elland Road slightly defeated.”

Leeds United can harness the Elland Road atmosphere this season

Leeds began the Championship campaign in unremarkable fashion but have since reminded the division of their title credentials as Farke engineered a remarkable upturn in form.

This is in no small part down to the side’s form at Elland Road. The Whites have lost only once on home soil this year, in the 1-0 defeat against Burnley, but the 2-0 win in the Yorkshire derby against Sheffield United has released the shackles in the Championship.

Farke has not been without his tribulations this year as long-term injuries to Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Max Wober left his side vulnerable in two key positions heading into a pivotal period of the season.

The German has since secured the signing of free agent Josuha Guilavogui, who can fill the gaping voids at both centre-back and centre-midfield, but given the overwhelming expectations on his side this year, Farke’s future at Leeds is far from certain.

He has been told he must maintain the fantastic form throughout the campaign and secure a long-awaited return to the Premier League to ensure he remains in the dugout at Elland Road.

As harsh as the view may be, the Whites cannot afford another year lingering in the Championship. But Farke has the foundations to build what can be a successful season for his side with the power of Elland Road behind him.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites must avoid making a Patrick Bamford mistake amid Southampton transfer talk.
