Jamie Shackleton also ruled of Leeds United clash v Tottenham

Jamie Shackleton and Junior Firpo have been ruled out of playing for Leeds United when they take on Tottenham on Sunday.

Marcelo Bielsa spoke to the media on Friday and at the start of his press conference, he revealed that Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling won’t be fit to play in North London as Premier League action resumes after the international break.

He’s since added that Shackleton, 22, and Firpo, 25, are set to miss out as well with the two players yet to return to full match fitness.

The Athletic journalist relayed what Bielsa said to the media.

Hay’s tweet said: “Firpo is doing well, just needs minutes, Bielsa says. Shackleton is in the same situation (doesn’t sound like either will be involved on Sunday).”

Robin Koch is also set to miss out as he recovers from surgery.

We all thought that these players would be able to return to full fitness in time to play against Tottenham but that’s not going to be the case.

We’re not sure what’s going on with Firpo as he made a brief comeback with the Under-23s before not featuring against Norwich and Leicester.

Stuart Dallas and Pascal Struijk have had to play in the full-back roles with Firpo and Shackleton absent and that’s really not ideal.

In January, if Firpo’s injury and fitness issues persist, we really need to sign a new left-back.

It’s a real shame that Ezgjan Alioski didn’t stay at Elland Road because he’d have been the perfect player to come in at left-back whenever Firpo cannot play.

However, Alioski had his own ambitions and we cannot blame him for wanting to leave to ensure he gets regular first-team minutes.

Firpo’s start to life in Leeds has been underwhelming.

He’s had one or two good games but otherwise, he’s been injured or failed to meet expectations.

Another left-back to apply some pressure on him or at least serve as a back-up should be on Victor Orta’s list for January.
