James Tarkowski to choose Everton over Leeds United after Frank Lampard promise
Leeds United look set to miss out on the free-agent signing of James Tarkowski this summer, according to i News.
It is reported that Everton will win the race for the former Burnley man after Frank Lampard made him the personal promise of a platform to try and win his spot back in the England squad before the World Cup in Qatar.
Aston Villa and Newcastle were also said to be in the race for the 29-year-old, who will likely seal his move to Goodison Park once he returns from holiday.
Lampard will be begging for more signings this summer, but Everton are in disarray financially and may find it hard to push the boat out.
Leeds won’t be kicking themselves too much if they do miss out on this one, with bigger fish to fry.
Brenden Aaronson has already signed for more than £20million, and it looks as though Rasmus Kristensen will be following him through the door from RB Salzburg.

That’s a Champions League level defender rather than a recently-relegated one on wages that could hit £100,000-a-week – no, thank you.
Not worth it.
Leeds don’t need to be throwing huge wages at players to bring them to Elland Road.
It appears as though Lampard is selling false dreams too, with there being very little chance of Tarkowski making it into that England squad for the World Cup later this year.
The Whites have plenty of options and a great blend of youth and experience in the heart of their defence, something that doesn’t need adding to right now.
Victor Orta will have his list of targets with the midfield and the final third more important, with Tarkowski likely on there just in case he became available at a bargain weekly wage.
That doesn’t appear to be the case and Leeds will move on swiftly and accordingly in this window.
With Kristensen set to follow Aaronson to Elland Road, Jesse Marsch will be very happy with the start to the summer and there will be more to come – Tarkowski will soon become a distant memory.
