Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has aimed a dig at the Leeds United pitch on social media following their 1-0 defeat to Brighton.
The England international posted a picture of the Sky Sports coverage of the Leeds game on his official Instagram account, with the caption ‘Everyone just slips on this pitch’, with three laughing emojis accompanying the message.
The bad state of the Elland Road pitch was clear to see and it is fair to say that the condition of it has not helped Leeds in recent weeks.
CEO Angus Kinnear had hoped to have the pitch relayed over the summer, but the truncated season and busy schedule meant that simply was not an option.
Fortunately for Grealish, he and his Aston Villa team-mates do not travel to Elland Road until the end of February.
Away form could become important
While Leeds may not be as free-flowing when playing on the heavy Elland Road surface, their Premier League results have not been affected too badly as a result.
In their last five home games, the Whites have only tasted defeat twice – against Brighton and West Ham.
The club’s ground staff may be pleased to know that Leeds do not now play at home until the beginning of February.
With no plans to relay the pitch until the summer, this could put an extra onus on Leeds’ away form.
Speaking after the game, Bielsa was eager to avoid blaming the pitch, but there is no doubting the need for the club to address the situation in the summer.
