‘It’s unlikely’ – Sky Sports make major claim over Leeds January transfer plans

Leeds United are unlikely to sign anyone in the January transfer window, according to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton

The Whites have been linked with a host of names already in the first week of the transfer window but Thornton isn’t expecting much activity at Elland Road.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk show (Wednesday, Jan 6), Thornton claimed that the only incomings at Leeds may be for the youth side.

He said, “Loads of names are being linked with Leeds but I’m told that it’s unlikely they’ll make signings in this window.

“Maybe we’ll see a couple of loans come into the Under 23’s but as far as signings for the first team, it’s unlikely.

“It’s not impossible that Leeds will bring someone in but at this stage, it is unlikely despite there being so many names linked to the club.”

There have been claims that Leeds may hold off on spending money this month so that they can afford to recruit heavily in the summer and this latest report lines up with that school of thought.

With all the injuries the Whites have picked up this season, especially in defence, you would think that we might be targeting another defender.

Of course, these players will return from injury in time and the squad certainly looks good enough to stay in the Premier League.

However, if the versatile pair of Luke Ayling or Stuart Dallas pick up long term injuries this could present a major problem for the club.

Even a loan move for a defender to provide back up would make the squad stronger and it would also give Marcelo Bielsa the chance to rotate his squad a bit more, not that he will.

It would be disappointing to not see any new faces at Elland Road this month but if we are looking to go big in the summer then ultimately it makes sense.

In other Leeds United news, the BBC claim that Elland Road is the likeliest destination for one Premier League defender.
