Injury expert: John McGinn and Diego Carlos ruled out of Aston Villa Premier League clash v Leeds United
Aston Villa are set to be without John McGinn and Diego Carlos for their Premier League clash against Leeds United on Friday.
Brazilian defender Carlos is a long-term absentee from Unai Emery’s side having suffered an Achilles injury at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
Birmingham Live had initially reported (4 January) McGinn would only miss the games against Wolves and Stevenage after suffering a hamstring strain in the win over Tottenham Hotspur.
However, according to injury expert Ben Dinnery (Premier Injuries), the Scotland international has also been ruled out of the fixture against Leeds on Friday (13 January).
The absence of McGinn will be a big loss to Villa, with the 28-year-old playing an important role in Emery’s 4-4-2 system. He has been utilised in a wider and more advanced position and was influential in Villa’s impressive victories over Brighton and Spurs.
For Jesse Marsch and Leeds, it’s time to really put a consistent run of form together. Too often this season we’ve seen the Whites produce inconsistent performances or only show up for specific moments in matches.
Marsch has already added to his squad with Max Wober making his debut in the FA Cup draw against Cardiff. The former RB Salzburg man certainly made an influence in South Wales and could well be a combative addition to Leeds squad.
If results don’t turn around questions will really start to be asked of Marsch, with the majority of this team having been assembled under his supervision. There’s been plenty of investment, we now need to see results.
