Injury blow as Leeds loanee needs surgery – ruled out for up to three months
Leeds United striker Jay-Roy Grot has suffered a massive blow after suffering a meniscus tear in Vitesse Arnhem’s game against FC Twente at the weekend.
The news was announced on the official Leeds United website on Tuesday.
Grot will now have surgery on Wednesday and could be out for up to three months.
It’s really unfortunate timing for the 21-year-old, who scored his second goal of the season in the game at the weekend.
It showed what he’s capable of, too. Grot picked the ball up in his own half before powering past two defenders and firing a shot into the net.
The footage was uploaded by journalist Tom Cardnuff who called it a “right goal”.
It led to Leeds fans wondering whether Grot could have a future with Leeds next season, hopefully in the Premier League.
Grot signed for £1.4m in the summer of 2017 and made 22 appearances for Leeds, scoring just the one goal before heading off on loan.
This is a huge setback for him just as he looked like he might be finding his feet in the Eredivisie.
Three months will keep him out for the rest of the season.
