Illan Meslier arrives at France U21 duty with plastic bags from Leeds United shop

Illan Meslier has turned up to France under-21 international duty with two Leeds United bags from the Elland Road club shop.

The £25million man (Daily Star, 17 August) remains part of Sylvain Ripoll’s setup ahead of the European Under-21 Championship in the summer.

Meslier has since posted an image (personal Instagram, 22 March) of himself arriving for international duty in Clairefontaine with two pieces of Leeds’ merchandise.

Represent

Irrespective of the star-studded talent which walks through the front door at the National Center Du Football, it’s good to see Meslier getting a little bit of Leeds United representation in there. France’s pool of talent at present is, without a doubt, the most impressive in the World.

They may have narrowly lost out on the World Cup to Argentina, but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that they’re one of the most impressive national sides ever to grace the international stage. Meslier is probably due a shot in the Didier Deschamps’ squad.

Leeds United

He’s 23 and is only eligible to play for the under-21s due to his age when the qualifying for the European Championship qualifying campaign started. Considering Hugo Lloris has now called time on his international career, the Leeds man’s chance will come.

Meslier is still extremely young for a goalkeeper and will almost certainly be Les Bleus’ number one in the coming years. Even the Euros in Germany cannot be ruled out for the 23-year-old.

In other Leeds United news, one player’s exit could depend on Javi Gracia remaining the man in the dugout at Elland Road.
