Paul Merson has claimed he would be “shocked” if Leeds United managed to beat Wolves on Monday evening.
Leeds are currently sitting eighth in the Premier League on seven points, five spots and one point ahead of their Midlands rivals.
Merson claimed that Wolves will have too much on the counter-attack at Elland Road, something which could harm the Whites defence.
The Sky Sports pundit believes Manchester City could have blown Leeds away, and that plenty more work is needed by Marcelo Bielsa.
“I worry against Wolves,” he said on Soccer Saturday (17/10 14:37 pm)
“I like Leeds, I think they’re the team to watch but there’s a lot more to be done, believe me.
“Even though they’re doing well, I don’t see them beating Wolves, I’d be shocked if they beat Wolves. I think because of the way Wolves play and the way they can counter-attack and they’ve got players that can majorly hurt them.”
Wolves in crisis?
It may not be as straight forward as Merson once thought. A number of Wolves players have been with Portugal this week – where Cristiano Ronaldo tested positive for COVID-19.
Nuno Espirito Santo admitted that the workload his players are being put through is “absurd” – something which suggests their preparations could have been affected.
Leeds aren’t in the clear either though, with Diego Llorente ruled out and Liam Cooper a big doubt for the game at Elland Road.
That would see Pascal Struijk partner Robin Koch, and with a number of problems for both sides, this game could be very open.
It could come down to who takes advantage of that better, and Merson believes it could be the away side – we shall see.
