Ian Wright sends emotional message to Leeds United's Kalvin Phillips after Euros debut
Premier League legend Ian Wright has reacted to Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips’ performance against Croatia.
The 25-year-old was on top of his game in England’s European Championship opener, providing what proved to be the only assist of the game.
The Leeds star lost his grandmother Val Crosby in February, and would have wished that she was still alive to watch him make his Euros debut.
Wright believes Granny Val was watching from heaven, though, taking to his personal Twitter account to send this message to Phillips.

The Arsenal legend has paid an emotional and classy tribute to Granny Val, and it is not a surprise given the type of man he is.
Crosby became popular with Leeds fans after starring in the Amazon Prime documentary, Take Us Home, and she played a huge role in making Phillips who he has become today.
She would have been very proud to see the midfielder play at his first major tournament for England, and her grandson will now be looking to dedicate a Euros medal to her.
Gareth Southgate’s side will hope to top their group by also putting both Scotland and the Czech Republic to the sword, and they can always count on Phillips to deliver.
The Leeds star was a force to reckon with in a box-to-box role today, and scouts from Europe’s bigwigs are definitely keeping their eyes on him.
They would have been left impressed with his performance against Croatia, and we could have a huge transfer battle on our hands.
It would not come as a surprise if domestic and continental giants come calling for Phillips’ signature this summer, but we are not looking to let go of such a player anytime soon.
