Ian Wright hails Patrick Bamford Leeds United impact v Norwich
Ian Wright has hailed the performance of Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford in the Whites’ victory against Norwich on Match of the Day 2.
The England international made his first start since September to help the Whites earn a hard-fought 2-1 victory over their fellow relegation rivals.
Wright highlighted the importance of Bamford’s impact for Jesse Marsch and the style of football the American likes to play.
He said on MOTD2: “What he gives them is that focal point in that number nine who can keep the ball in areas where Leeds can then get their players to come up and support him.
“He kept Leeds in an area of the field where they can continue to attack Norwich. He’s done so well.”
It was brilliant having Bamford back in action. Despite not scoring, the Whites’ sharpshooter really made an impact on the team’s performance in the first half.
He offered a great out ball for his teammates to get Leeds up the pitch which helped Marsch’s men turn defence into attack a number of times.
He performed valiantly in his first start since September, but you could clearly see there were and still are some cobwebs to blow off.
On another day he would have scored with a couple of decent chances falling his way but just to have him back and making a positive impact in attack was great, he has been hugely missed.
It must be remembered he is still working his way back to full fitness but what he offered in just 45 minutes worth of football was great.
Fingers crossed he can stay fit and continue to improve week by week. His goals and assists are likely to be needed In the coming weeks as the Whites look to cement their Premier League status.
