Ian Wright hails 'fantastic' Brendan Aaronson for performance in Leeds United win v Wolves
Ian Wright absolutely loved Brenden Aaronson’s performance in Leeds United’s 2-1 win over Wolves in the Premier League opener.
The Whites claimed an opening day victory at Elland Road, coming from behind thanks to goals from Rodrigo Moreno and an own goal by Rayan Ait-Nouri late on.
But Aaronson was active throughout the game and posed a constant threat, something Wright told BBC Match of the Day [August 6] he believed was “very, very exciting” for Leeds fans.
“When you think of intensity, pace and everything that comes with the way they play, he is everything,” he said.
“He encompasses everything that Leeds are about and I think he’s going to be probably one of those players that Leeds fans will take to very quickly.
“He’s so energised, so quick, so busy around everyone. He does well to help set up the first goal. His quickness with the ball when he gets on the ball, look at him go. Fantastic pace he’s got.
“He played under Jesse Marsch at Salzburg and at the time he got ten goals and six assists. He’s somebody who you feel like a Jesse Marsch player would play like this guy. Very, very exciting.”
Wright is absolutely spot on with his assessment of Aaronson, who had a top debut and was a threat throughout the game.
He showed why the club and Marsch in particular had been so keen on bringing him in to Elland Road this summer, because he is exactly the type of player that the manager wants as part of his squad.
He’s energetic, he’s quick, he has great decision making in the final third and provides a real threat in the opposition box.
He was unlucky not to get a goal when Ait-Nouri took it off his boot to turn into his own net, but all the positive signs were there and thankfully they came in a victory to make it even sweeter.
There’s likely even more to come from the 21-year-old too which as Wright says is very, very exciting. Bring on the rest of the season where we can keep watching him grow.
