Ian Wright blasts Dan James in Leeds United win v West Ham
Ian Wright has blasted Leeds United attacker Dan James despite the big 3-2 win against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.
The Welsh speedster ran himself into the ground at the London Stadium, but fell at the final hurdle at times, missing simple chances.
Wright singled out the miss at the end of the first half, where James was through on goal but could only slot a tame effort straight at Lukasz Fabianski.
Speaking on Match of the Day 2, Wright was not impressed with what he saw from the Welsh international in the final third.
“Daniel James, I’m thinking just get this out of your feet,” he said.
“If he gets this out of his feet, he can put it to the goalkeepers left or the goalkeepers right – he can do so many things.
“He’s somebody who seems to be always going at 100mph, he doesn’t sort his feet out and that is a poor finish.
“You look at it from here, if he can get it out of his feet, look at the goalkeeper, he’s got so much space, he doesn’t do it.”
It was a real shame to see James get negative press because he was so selfless with the amount of running he did.
Craig Dawson and Issa Diop were simply never allowed a moment of peace at the London Stadium, with the attacker not stopping for breath once.
Having said that, calming down and taking a breath, as well as a better touch here could have made all the difference.
It was a shocking finish in the end, he will know that, and that has to be on the agenda at Thorp Arch, whether individual sessions or not for James.
In many ways, the winger is perfect for Leeds with his speed and ability to press, and when that finishing touch comes, we will have an unbelievable option on our hands.
