Ian Poveda provides positive update on injury as recovery continues

Leeds United forward Ian Poveda has taken to his personal Instagram account to provide an update on his injury recovery following an operation.

The 21-year-old suffered both a fracture and ligament damage to his left ankle in Blackburn Rover’s 1-1 draw at Bristol City last month and could be out of action for the rest of 2021-22.

Poveda has since gone under the knife, and he now has his leg in the boot, and it is a great development as his last update after surgery showed he could not wear anything.

He said: “In the boot now.”

Looking good

The Whites attacker is not likely to play again for the Ewood Park outfit again in 2021-22, but his recovery could be quicker than expected, and having him available for pre-season training ahead of 2022-23 would be massive.

Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa reckoned sending him out on loan for the season would do his development some good, but that did not go according to plans.

Poveda had a quiet start to life at the Championship outfit, but he contributed a goal and an assist in his last two league games and things were starting to look good.

He will now be looking to make a swift return to action and, hopefully, prove that he still has a future at Elland Road.

Leeds have struggled in front of goal so far, averaging below one goal per league game, and they could look to strengthen their attack in January.

Poveda has a lot of work to do to show that he can become a key player under Bielsa, and while his injury has dealt a massive blow on his chances of doing that, his full recovery is the most important thing right now.
