Ian Poveda details how Leeds squad have reacted to 2-0 defeat v Cardiff
Leeds United winger Ian Poveda has insisted that the Whites’ confidence hasn’t been affected by their 2-0 defeat against Cardiff City on Sunday.
The promising youngster made his Championship debut for the club after impressing in training after the enforced lockdown at Thorp Arch.
With Fulham losing to Brentford on Saturday, Leeds got another game out of the way while maintaining their seven-point gap to third in the Championship.
Poveda admitted that Leeds are now fully concentrated on the crunch clash with Fulham on Saturday, rather than looking back at the disappointing return to action.
“I don’t think our confidence has shattered one bit,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Everyone is still working hard, we know what we can do, we just have to go and execute it.
“That’s our focus right now, we’ve got Fulham next and that’s what we’re going to do, go in and give 100 per cent and smash it.”
It may have been a disappointing result, but the performance level wasn’t far away from a typical Marcelo Bielsa display as the Whites dominated the ball.
It is a perfect opportunity to bounce back against Fulham, with the possibility of opening up a 10-point gap to the play-offs if results go our way.
Should Brentford beat West Brom on Friday, Leeds could only open up the gap to eight points with a win at Elland Road.
What are the chances of that? Prediction expert Nate Silver has claimed that Bielsa’s men have a 59% chance of picking up the win compared to the Cottagers, who only have a 16% chance of leaving Yorkshire with a win [FiveThirtyEight].
