‘I shouldn’t laugh but…’ – Scott Minto says what Leeds fans must do amid worrying run
Sky Sports pundit Scott Minto has urged Leeds United fans to stick together through their current rough patch at the top-end of the Championship table.
Leeds lost to promotion rivals Nottingham Forest on Saturday, meaning that although they remain second in the standings, third-placed Fulham are now level on points with them.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men have been struggling for well over a month now with the Yorkshire giants winning just one of their last six Championship fixtures and that has led to fears that yet another once-promising promotion bid is going to fail.
Former Charlton and West Ham defender Minto has suggested that Leeds fans will be worried about another collapse but has called on supporters to stop biting each other’s heads off amid the poor run.
“In terms of the Leeds fans, I shouldn’t laugh but it’s almost I look at them and they’re thinking ‘here we go again’,” Minto said on Sky Sports’ EFL Podcast.
“I cannot express enough how important it is for the Leeds fans to stick together.
“This is a top-ten Premier League club. This is a club with unbelievable history and this club, in the last few years, hasn’t looked like going up.
“Bielsa’s come in and he’s transformed the club, he’s turned players who’ve been putting in averages performances into really good Championship performances.”
Minto is certainly right about the fans.
There have been a lot of arguments on social media websites and players, plus Bielsa, have all been widely criticised over recent weeks.
However one thing worth remembering is that Leeds are in the position they are in because of Bielsa and because of the transformation he has overseen at Elland Road.
Have faith in Bielsa because Leeds are bound to bounce back to winning ways eventually and that is when a renewed bid at promotion should materialise.
There are plenty of games left to go and, although the gap to third has now disappeared, the Whites are still one of the best teams in the league.
In other Leeds United news, this midfielder has confirmed his likely return date.
