'I knew...' - Mateusz Klich jokingly responds as Leeds stars clash on international duty

Leeds United had an impressive number of players out on international duty this week, all with different levels of success.

For the first time in history at Elland Road, the Whites had a player start for each of the home nations on Thursday evening.

Two of those came up against each other, Kalvin Phillips of England and Tyler Roberts who led the line for Wales at Wembley.

There was an incident in the game where Phillips was caught out of position slightly and was forced to bring down Roberts.

Both have reacted online, with the Yorkshire Pirlo sharing a laugh and joke on his personal Instagram account over the past 24 hours.

Mateusz Klich also responded in the comments, joking that he expected this sort of clash to happen between the two.

“I knew this was going to happen,” he wrote.

Both players impressed for their countries in the game, but in the end, it was England who had too much class for the away side.

Goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Conor Coady and Danny Ings sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory for the Three Lions.

Despite his solid performance, Phillips was once again picked apart by England fans, who somehow weren’t impressed with his role.

Gareth Southgate plays two defensive midfielders, and that seems to stifle the 24-year-old, who becomes less involved as a result.

Despite that criticism, he still completed 95% of his 59 passes according to WyScout and won all of his aerial duels when screening the back three.

It was great to see two Leeds players out on the pitch at Wembley, but please take it easy boys – we’re back next week.
