SC Freiburg head coach Christian Streich was uncertain when questioned about the future of reported Leeds United target Robin Koch.
Victor Orta has confirmed that the central defender is on his shortlist at Elland Road but also admitted that a move for him will only take place if the Whites earn promotion to the Premier League.
It was revealed that Koch had almost joined RB Leipzig in January, but that is a move that failed to materialise at the time.
Streich confirmed in a recent interview that Freiburg need to sell players in order to stay afloat, and Koch could fall into that category.
“At the moment, I can’t say whether Robin will play for another club next year,” he told Sky, translated by Fussball.
“We are an association that relies on transfer proceeds. The most important thing for us is that we are financially healthy.”
It is certainly encouraging if Leeds were to explore any move in the future, although there will likely be more shouts for Ben White’s future to be tied down at Elland Road.
If Leeds are able to bring White in permanently, there will be question marks surrounding any possible move for Koch, although that may not be a bad thing.
Comparing the two this season, White has been much-more solid at the back averaging more tackles and interceptions whilst making fewer fouls per game according to WhoScored.
Either way, Leeds will need a central defender next season, no matter which division and these latest comments surely open the door to bring Koch to Elland Road.
