'He's an unbelievable player' - Liam Cooper raves about one Fulham ace before Leeds clash

Liam Cooper has admitted that Fulham have an “unbelievable player” in Aleksandar Mitrovic ahead of Saturday’s meeting between Leeds United and the Cottagers.

Mitrovic, 25, is the leading goalscorer in the Championship as it stands with the Serbia international netting 16 league goals this season.

According to WhoScored, the ex-Newcastle striker has been involved in 48 per cent of Fulham’s goals this season and no player in the league has been more vital to his side’s goal return.

Cooper is set to return from injury on Saturday after missing the last three matches with a calf injury.

He will no doubt be pitted against Mitrovic at Craven Cottage and is fully aware of the task that he is set to have in dealing with the Balkan striker.

“We know what we need to do to nullify Mitrovic,” said Cooper at the Cash for Kids’ Mission Christmas campaign this week, as quoted by LeedsLive.

“He’s an unbelievable player, he plays for his country, he’s proven at that level, he scores goals at this level and I think we’ve got to do everything we can to nullify his attributes and then concentrate on us. How we’re going to hurt them.”

Leeds conceded three goals for the first time this season on Saturday when they drew 3-3 with Cardiff City at Elland Road.

Cooper missed that match and it was clear throughout the 90 minutes that the Welsh side targetted the lack of aerial presence that the Whites had in their own penalty area.

Cardiff won themselves a point by taking advantage of Leeds’ weakened backline but Marcelo Bielsa should have a fully fit defence this weekend – which is perfect timing to deal with the prolific Mitrovic.

In other Leeds United news, Victor Orta is likely to be involved in talks to sign this striker over the coming days.
