Helder Costa to return to Leeds United after failed Valencia loan spell – report

Helder Costa will definitely return to Leeds United at the end of the season after his failed loan spell at Valencia this season, according to El Desmarque.

The Spanish outlet report that only an “unexpected” twist will keep the Angolan international at the La Liga club rather than Elland Road over the summer.

Costa is said to have been overtaken by homegrown players in his position, with his impact little to nothing since arriving on loan back in the summer window.

After a poor first season in the Premier League with Leeds, Costa was bombed out.

Marcelo Bielsa decided to grant the loan exit after the arrival of Dan James, who came in for big money from Manchester United towards the end of the window.

That is another move that didn’t end up going too well, with too much pressure on the shoulders of Raphinha.

Bielsa has obviously since left and Jesse Marsch is now in charge, and the American has not yet seen Costa in action so may give him that chance in training.

Shocker.

This is just another example of poor recruitment.

Big money was spent by Victor Orta to bring Costa to Elland Road, and he even failed to deceive in the Championship, never mind the Premier League.

Now we are in a position where we are heavy favourites to be relegated on the final day of the season, and we may need to give these types of players another shot.

Marsch will give Costa that chance, and given that there is no chance of recouping anywhere near what we paid Wolves for him, it may be a no brainer.

It is a sad state of affairs at Elland Road right now, and it looks as though yet another failed transfer will be coming back to Thorp Arch to try and prove himself.

With Raphinha all but certain to leave this summer, a replacement will be needed and we are praying that the return of Costa isn’t used for that – we would be gutted.
