'Great defending' - Tony Adams hails Leeds star after controversy in 0-0 draw v Arsenal
Tony Adams has praised Leeds United defender Ezgjan Alioski for his relentless pressure that eventually saw Arsenal’s Nicolas Pepe receive a red card.
The Macedonian was all over the Gunners winger from one end of the pitch to the other, and that eventually saw him lose his temper and headbutt him in an altercation.
Alioski has been described as dramatic, but Adams believes it was “great defending” that saw Pepe buckle under the pressure.
Adams believes that if Alioski wasn’t doing that, he wouldn’t be doing his job correctly – something Marcelo Bielsa wouldn’t accept.
“I can’t defend him (Pepe) at all,” he told Stadium Astro.
“He’s got frustrated because there is huge pressure, the Leeds player is completely down his neck and you’re entitled to do that.

“That’s great defending for me. You’ve got to take that in your stride if a defender’s not pressurising you, then he’s not doing his job. I can’t defend the guy.”
This is exactly what Alioski is great at.
You won’t find many better than the Macedonian of putting pressure on opponents, with his non-stop runnings and bundles of energy down the left-hand side.
The 28-year-old was solid defensively, making 14 recoveries and completing four interceptions and three clearances according to WyScout in a glowing display.
There are no excuses for Pepe. Yes, Alioski may have gone down dramatically, but when given that chance, most players would have – you simply can’t react like that.
