Graham Smyth shares major Kalvin Phillips injury update as Leeds contract & exit speculation swirls
Graham Smyth has reported that the injury picked up by Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips whilst on England duty this week is not too serious.
The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist has reported that Leeds are still confident of tying him down to a new contract once he returns from this latest international break.
That is despite strong interest from Manchester City to conclude a deal, with this latest injury not forcing him to leave the Three Lions’ camp and unlikely to affect any potential move.

Writing in his latest piece for the Yorkshire Evening Post on Thursday afternoon [09 June], Smyth shared the latest state of play after the midfielder limped off against Germany.
“Leeds’ position on Phillips remains that they want to secure him on an improved contract this summer,” he wrote.
“There’s confidence at Elland Road that they can tie the 26-year-old England international down to a longer deal, with two years left on his current contract, once his international duty is complete and the picture over his representation becomes clearer.
“Phillips limped out of England’s Nations League game with Germany on Tuesday night with what Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate said was ‘quite a severe’ dead leg. The YEP understands the injury is not so serious that Phillips has had to leave the England camp.”

Brilliant news.
Thankfully, Phillips doesn’t look to have suffered anything serious.
On one hand, sitting out for weeks could have stopped all of this exit talk, but we want the Yorkshire Pirlo fit and firing for the new 2022-23 season at Elland Road.
Manchester City, of course, have no financial restrictions and can pay any money for any player they like, but this has to be more than money for Jesse Marsch.
Andrea Radrizzani simply has to get this new contract done with a blank cheque for our main man, and if it is done before he jets away on a well-earned break, it would be perfect.
Injury or not, Leeds must do all they can, but it looks as though we will be seeing Phillips in one of England’s final two games in the Nations League across the next week.
There are surely set to be more twists and turns along the way, but we have everything crossed that a new deal can be sorted sooner rather than later.
