Graham Smyth: Leeds in long-term conversations over major signing of Brenden Aaronson

Graham Smyth has insisted that Leeds United have been interested in an RB Salzburg midfielder since December, with a deal now in the works for Brenden Aaronson.

A bid is said to have been rejected by the Whites in the past week, with a move for the American international top of the list at Elland Road.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist, Smyth, has shared that conversations have been going on for quite some time now.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Smyth shared that conversations will have been long-term over the potential signing.

“We knew in mid December they were keen on a Salzburg midfielder but couldn’t narrow it down between Aaronson and Camara,” he wrote.

“I’m sure conversations have been going on for some time.”

Long term.

With conversations said to have been in place for quite some time now, Leeds will have a good idea of what it will take to get this deal over the line.

Orta and Andrea Radrizzani were likely testing the waters with the £15million bid this week and may need to go up to £20million to get it done.

The Austrian club are known for breeding talent and selling them on, just look at the likes of Erling Haaland and Takumi Minamino.

Champions League progression may hamper this deal, but if Leeds want Aaronson that badly, the 49ers would surely support the move given his American connections.

With interest going over a month, it will only be a matter of time before we become desperate in this pursuit – time to get it done.
