Graeme Souness heaps praise on Jesse Marsch for Leeds United win v Chelsea
Graeme Souness has heaped praise on Jesse Marsch after an incredible win for Leeds United against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.
The Whites secured a thumping 3-0 triumph over the two-time Champions League winners at Elland Road.
Speaking about the win on talkSPORT, Souness stated that the result against the Blues will help Marsch in coming out of the shadow of former manager Marcelo Bielsa.
“Leeds historically has always been a very difficult place to play,” he said. “They have a hostile crowd and it is great to play in front of them. It is a hell of a result [against Chelsea].
“The manager [Marsch] deserves credit. I am like most people in football when an American coming to our game, will find life very difficult.
“Maybe until yesterday he was living in the shadow of Bielsa but with the result yesterday, maybe that has lifted somehow. Only results could do that and no talking.”
Leeds came into this season hoping that they will not have to go through a similar route which they had to in the last campaign.
There was a genuine sense of concern about how the team would cope without their two best players in Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha who joined Manchester City and Barcelona earlier in the window.
However, Marsch has managed to rally his troops in a manner where everything seems to be clicking and the team has been nothing short of outstanding in the first three matches of the season.
With wins against Wolves and Chelsea and a draw — which should’ve been a win — against Southampton, Leeds are exactly where they wanted to be after the first few weeks and the fans will be hoping that the side will be able to continue delivering like they have done so far in the season which should be enough for the club to ensure another season in the Premier League.
