Grady Diangana transfer: David Prutton reacts to Leeds United news

Grady Diangana is being linked with a move to Leeds United ahead of the expiration of his contract at West Brom.

The summer transfer window is not far away, but it is still too early for Leeds to think about new signings, as they are uncertain about earning promotion.

Daniel Farke’s side returned to the top of the Championship table after beating Middlesbrough 1-0 on Tuesday (8 April), but are yet to seal automatic promotion.

Paraag Marathe could sanction a summer spending spree of over £100million if the Whites earn promotion, although that is still a very big if.

Diangana to Leeds United, Prutton a fan

However, that is not to say there is no work being done behind the scenes at Elland Road, with Diangana linked with a move to Leeds.

The Congo international is set to leave West Brom as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season, as things stand, and already has offers from two Major League Soccer clubs.

However, the attacker is holding off on a move to the United States with the hopes that the Whites, as well as Wolves, step up their interest in him.

Assessing Diangana’s future, Prutton said that it is understandable that a team like Leeds United have taken interest in him.

However, the Sky Sports presenter is of the view that the 26-year-old would have to be way more consistent if he were to join the West Yorkshire outfit or Wolves.

“Grady Diangana has been part of a side in past Championship seasons that have really entertained, enthralled, and has been utterly creative, so I can see how a side like Leeds could be interested in him”, Prutton told FLW (10 April).

“Wolves are another side who you feel, given those types of mercurial talents, could be favourable.

“What they, or whoever decides to take him, need from Diangana though, is that consistent Championship quality that he has shown at the West Brom side who climbed out of the division.”

Farke to welcome Diangana at Elland Road

Leeds United are not short of options in the wide areas, as they have Dan James, Manor Solomon, Wilfried Gnonto and Largie Ramazani in their ranks.

However, Solomon is expected to return to Tottenham when his loan deal expires, while there are doubts about Ramazani’s future at Elland Road.

Furthermore, it never hurts to have more options in the squad, especially if you are signing a player on a free transfer.

It is also worth noting that Diangana is comfortable playing down the middle.

Farke has been forced to continue starting Brenden Aaronson even when he has been out of form due to a lack of options in that position.
