Glen Johnson hopes Liverpool can land Leeds United ace Raphinha

Raphinha has been linked with the bigwigs following his mind-blowing performances for Leeds United – and he could leave Elland Road soon.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona are keeping tabs on the Brazilian international, 24, while the player has told UOL Sport that he is aware of interests from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United.

Former Reds star Glen Johnson is a fan of the Whites forward and is hoping he can swap Yorkshire for Liverpool next summer.

Asked if he would love to see Raphinha at Anfield amid rumours that his old club could go head to head with Barcelona for the winger’s signature next summer, Johnson told Betting Odds that such a move would be perfect.

The Sky Sports pundit said: “I like him. I’m a big fan. The style of football that Leeds play suits him, he has the shackles off and he’s technically great.

“If he did sign for Liverpool then I wouldn’t expect him to demand a place in their starting eleven, but he would certainly be one of those players on the fringe and would definitely strengthen the squad.

“He’s the sort of player that would suit Liverpool’s style of play too, so if the money was right then I’m sure he would be high on their list of targets.”

Exit inevitable?

Raphinha made his international debut this month and has definitely attracted more scouts as a result of the milestone.

Leeds are a big club themselves, but holding on to such a top player could prove herculean going forward.

With some of his international teammates playing for some of the biggest clubs in Europe and winning major silverware regularly, the winger could be tempted to join a side like Barcelona or Liverpool once they come calling.

Raphinha is a regular in Marcelo Bielsa’s starting XI, and while he will not walk straight into Jurgen Klopp’s, he will fancy his chances of doing so within a couple of months should he move to such a team.

The Leeds star has taken the Premier League by storm and is getting better, and should he establish himself as a key player for Brazil and impress at next summer’s World Cup, the Elland Road outfit are likely to struggle to keep him beyond the transfer window.
