Georginio Rutter has relegation release clause in Leeds United contract - Sky Sports pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has suggested Georginio Rutter could have a relegation release clause in his contract despite the club-record signing only joining in the January window.

The Athletic reported (10 March) there’s concern at Elland Road over potential clauses in a number of players’ contracts, should the club be relegated to the Championship.

Despite no specific players being mentioned, Robinson has earmarked Rutter as one who could have a relegation release clause inserted into his deal.

“Everyone who is at a club of similar stature will have a form of relegation clause in their contract – clubs won’t be able to survive without it,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“Rutter I suggest is another one who could have a relegation release clause along with McKennie.”

Javi Gracia and the board will be desperate for these potential relegation clauses to be avoided. It’s clear they are there for a reason, but it’s a scenario which cannot be contemplated.

Next up for Leeds is a trip to the West Midlands to face Wolverhampton Wanderers before a daunting trip to the Emirates to face Arsenal.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
