Gary Neville stunned by what Dan James said in Telegraph interview

Gary Neville has been left “alarmed” after reading Leeds United attacker Dan James’ interview with The Telegraph.

James completed a move to Elland Road on transfer deadline day, having been linked with Leeds since January 2019.

He recently spoke to the daily newspaper and discussed how he’s been analysing his performances.

The Wales attacker told the newspaper, “I think everyone goes through part of their career where you don’t realise something is happening until you look back and have good people around you to analyse that.

“I started thinking, ‘What does he do that I can do?’ rather than thinking just about my game and being myself. It got to the point where I was being a bit safe in games.”

These comments led to the former Manchester United defender and now Sky Sports pundit, giving his take on the situation.

Neville wrote, via his personal Twitter account, “Seems an obvious thing but it’s alarming how many wide players/forwards get stuck in build up, pockets, half turns and possession and forget why they are there.

“Goals, assists & to run behind defenders with and without the ball.”

Need him to deliver

Neville makes good points about what modern wingers should be doing and James must take this on board as constructive criticism.

Often at Man United, he did these things but wasn’t getting the sort of end product, which led to him altering his style of player.

However, under Marcelo Bielsa, he will be back to something of the classic style of winger and that will probably help him thrive.

He’s not likely to start next weekend, but will be very effective off the bench.

His signing raised a few eyebrows initially, but Leeds fans must be assured by it as he was scouted extensively by Bielsa and he knows what he’s getting on board.

Hopefully, the 23-year-old can finally live up to his potential and show the Manchester United fans what they’re missing out on.
