Gary Neville: Leeds United and Burnley complaints at Everton were ‘Poor’

Gary Neville has insisted that it was “poor” of Leeds United and Burnley to complain about the finances of Everton in the Premier League last season.

It was reported by the Times only days before relegation was decided that the duo threatened legal action with the Premier League amid huge losses at Goodison Park.

Nothing has yet come to light about these complaints, but Leeds are preparing to be a Premier League club again after surviving by the skin of their teeth at the expense of Burnley.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ The Overlap, Neville questioned two fans from Elland Road and Turf Moor who didn’t want to discuss the issue too much.

“What do you think about that, both of your clubs [Leeds and Burnley] complaining,” he said.

“I thought it was poor form that.”

Andrea Radrizzani and Alan Pace of Burnley were likely just trying to protect their own backs with this.

Leeds are said to be continuing this despite survival, something that was agreed upon between the two clubs before the final day drama on Sunday evening [22 May].

Both owners have come under serious questions this season over their financial decisions and also sacking influential managers that have been made icons by the fans.

Radrizzani is likely wishing he wasn’t involved in this anymore, but he has to go through it, no matter what it looks like from the outside as this legal threat continues.

The Premier League has signed off on the financials of Everton previously despite how shocking they may look, so it is hard to see anything coming from this – much to the disappointment of Burnley.

Thankfully, we will be a Premier League club next season regardless of what happens.

Time to move on.
