Gary Neville forced to double-check Leeds United relegation prediction, shares final thought

Gary Neville felt Leeds United were out of the relegation battle, but Saturday’s results provided him with some doubt.

While the Whites prepared for their FA Cup semi-final clash against Chelsea, fellow relegation candidates West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham all secured wins.

With four games to go, survival is not yet guaranteed, with six points the gap to the bottom three, with Tottenham in 18th.

However, Daniel Farke’s side do still have to play Spurs, meaning there is a chance to be dragged back into the fight.

Now, ahead of the final few weeks of Leeds’ Premier League campaign, Neville has shared his final thoughts on the Elland Road outfit’s chances.

What has Gary Neville said about Leeds’ survival chances?

Farke stated earlier in the campaign that 40 points is the magic number for Premier League survival.

However, as the weeks have gone on, and those at the bottom continue to pick up points, the landscape keeps shifting.

The Whites may have more work to do in that regard, and it is an outcome Neville did not expect to see happen.

The former England international felt that the Yorkshire outfit had already done enough, but results over the weekend added some uncertainty with the pundit forced to double check their chances.

Neville, via the Gary Neville podcast said: “I thought Leeds were out of it. Let’s have a look.”

After checking up on the remaining games for Farke’s side, the pundit delivered his final prediction.

He said: “I think Leeds’ fixtures are quite good. They have Burnley at home, Leeds. Tottenham, then they have Brighton at home, and they have West Ham. I think they will beat Burnley at home, Leeds.

“Which will then take them to whereby I don’t think they will get caught. I think Leeds are OK.”

Additionally, Jamie Redknapp would be majorly surprised if Leeds got relegated from here. Overall, while it is not mathematically secure yet, the Whites’ Premier League status looks in good stead.

Gary Neville to be proved wrong with earlier Premier League prediction

Neville will be forced to eat his own words come the end of the season, unless Leeds completely capitulate.

At the start of the season, Neville had predicted the Whites to be one of the three sides relegated, joining both Burnley and Wolves.

While the pundit has got two out of three so far, the odds are not in his favour for a clean sweep.

As the former Manchester United defender pointed out, the fixtures look to be kind for the LS11 side, and a win against Burnley will surely cement their place in the Premier League next season.

Then, at least a draw against Tottenham would mean Spurs could only go level on points with Leeds, with goal difference the decider.
