Leeds United relegation would now be one of ‘biggest surprises’ in Premier League history

Leeds United being relegated from the Premier League this season would be one of the “biggest surprises” in the history of the competition.

That’s according to Jamie Redknapp, who believes that the Whites are now safe.

Daniel Farke has overseen a sensational transformation at Elland Road with his new system, with Leeds only losing two of their last 10 games.

That puts the West Yorkshire side nine points ahead of Spurs, who play their game-in-hand against Wolves on Saturday at Molineux.

Even victory there would keep the gap at six points, with only four games to play after that as Leeds edge ever closer to Premier League survival.

Leeds United told relegation would be huge shock

For some reason, Sky Sports included Leeds’ final fixtures alongside Nottingham Forest, West Ham and Spurs in their look at the relegation run-in.

Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League ahead of the Friday fixture, Redknapp believes that it would be a huge shock if the Whites were to go down.

“We’ve put Leeds on here,” he said, looking at the fixture graphic.

“I think it would be one of the biggest surprises in Premier League history if they go down from there with 40 points.

“They will find a point from somewhere. That will mean if that’s to happen, Tottenham will have to win four of their last five games.

“They haven’t won in 15 games.”

Leeds United need one more win

Let’s be honest, most fans will not care about the Premier League this weekend with that historic FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Sunday at Wembley.

But, there may be one slight eye on those Saturday fixtures.

West Ham take on Everton at the London Stadium, while Wolves entertain Spurs at Molineux.

You’d think that if either of those drop points again in these fixtures, they would be done, with Leeds likely on the beach soon.

Having said that, Farke won’t allow his players to switch off, and another win over Burnley at Elland Road on 1 May would likely secure survival either way.

That then sets up two scintillating trips to West Ham and Spurs in the final three games, in which they could play a huge hand in either one of them getting relegated.
