Gary Lineker reacts as Leeds United suffer heavy defeat to Brentford
Gary Lineker was thrilled with the performance of Brentford striker Ivan Toney in their 5-2 win over Leeds United.
Toney bagged a hat-trick, scoring twice from dead-ball situations to register a phenomenal performance against the Whites.
His performances earned plaudits from many onlookers, including Lineker, one of the greatest English strikers of all time.
Via Twitter, Lineker wrote, “A wonderful finish completes a hattrick for Ivan Toney. A superb freekick and a cool penalty were the others. He’s in danger of playing himself into the England squad.”
The difference between the two sides was the presence of a quality finisher as Brentford had one of the best in the Premier League currently, while Leeds were caught looking for answers.
Jesse Marsch seemed clueless at times and just appeared to throw the kitchen sink and different permutations to figure out what worked.
He started with Joe Gelhardt, only to move him to number 10 and play Patrick Bamford, who himself did not look up for it.
It’s time to go back to the drawing board for the American as this is not acceptable and more performances like this will only pile on the pressure.
Brentford played a smart and pragmatic game and that worked out perfectly for them, unlike Leeds, who seemed to play it right into their hands.
Hopefully, he manages to turn things around soon as he needs to go on a run of at least two or three good results on the spin.
