Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted that he wants Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to be given a chance in the England squad.

Gareth Southgate was at the King Power Stadium on Sunday as the striker scored and assisted two goals in the 3-1 victory for the Whites.

Agbonlahor has been known to troll the Leeds fanbase this season but put his differences aside to praise the excellent start to life back in the Premier League of Bamford.

Bamford was speaking on talkSPORT on Monday morning, admitting that it was his “dream” to represent the Three Lions.

After being in the youth squads previously in his career, Bamford joked that he would never have believed he would be in contention at the start of this season.

After talkSPORT asked whether he deserves a shot under Southgate this season, Agbonlahor simply responded with one word: “Yes.”

All eyes on March.

Why wouldn’t Bamford be under consideration? He has been phenomenal this season.

The 27-year-old is out-performing some of the best strikers in the Premier League, with Harry Kane the only Englishman to score more.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was called up in the last squad, but he hasn’t scored in the Premier League since the start of December.

With the EUROs coming up, Southgate must hand chances to those in the best form, and there aren’t many better than Bamford in the England set-up right now.

For once, we agree with Agbonlahor.
