Fulham willing to meet Leeds United £20m asking price for Dan James
Leeds United winger Dan James in attracting interest from Fulham, with the West London club willing to meet the Whites £20million valuation according to ESPN’s James Olley.
Olley revealed on Wednesday 31 August that Tottenham are only showing a willingness to sign the 24-year-old with Marco Silva’s side the only club happy to spend £20million on the former Manchester United man.
It’s also understood that talks with both clubs are ongoing and that “all possibilities” are open for James as the window edges closer to its conclusion.
However, it has been suggested that James does have reservations over a move to Craven Cottage.
If Leeds can get £20million for James then they need to take the money and run after his move from Manchester United.
The Welshmen is by no means a bad player, but he has never quite got going at Elland Road and a move elsewhere could revitalise his somewhat stalling career.
The issue for Leeds and Jesse Marsch is that the interest from Fulham has come late in the window and gives the American very little time to replace James should he depart the club.
£20million would go a long way for Leeds in the current market and could allow them to add another attacking player to Marsch’s squad.
If this move had happened two or three weeks ago then it could well have been a smart piece of business from the club hierarchy.
There could be a replacement lined up for Leeds and if that is the case, the club should be doing all they can to convince James to move to Fulham.
It’s no surprise to hear of James’ reluctance to move to the London club, especially after he has played for Leeds and Manchester United in his career.
A move to Craven Cottage certainly does look like a backwards step, but it is one that he may need to make for the sake of his career.
