'Frustration' - Jose Mourinho discusses Jack Clarke loan spell at Leeds

Jose Mourinho has admitted that Jack Clarke’s appearance-shy loan spell at Leeds United was frustrating for Tottenham.

Clarke, 19, was signed by Spurs on a permanent basis from Leeds in the summer but was instantly sent back on loan to the Championship giants for what was supposed to be the duration of the season.

However Clarke made just one 19-minute-long league appearance during his loan spell and was eventually recalled by Tottenham during the festive period.

Mourinho has confirmed that Tottenham are seeking out a new loan club for Clarke to ensure that his development doesn’t stall after his unsatisfying spell at Elland Road.

“I know it’s finished but the structure is looking for another loan where he can play. In this half season he was not playing much and the objective of a loan is for the players to play,” said Mourinho on Friday, as quoted by

“A loan without minutes is frustration loan. One is enough so the next one we must be sure is a club and a manager that really wants him to play.”

It will be really interesting to see where Clarke heads next.

Although he impressed when he first burst onto the scene at Leeds last season, it would be fair to say that his performances in 2019 have not been as good as expected.

Leeds did well to get as much as they did from Tottenham for Clarke when the Premier League club agreed to pay around £10million [Telegraph] for the young attacker.

However it has been a shame to see him struggle to develop during his loan and spending time elsewhere is bound to help him.

Will he join another Championship club? Or is a drop down to League One in order for the promising attacker?

In other Leeds United news, two players could be handed their debuts against Arsenal on Monday.
