Four Chelsea players ruled out of Leeds United Premier League clash

Graham Potter has confirmed that four Chelsea players have been ruled out of the game against Leeds United on Sunday, 5 March.

Thiago Silva, Mason Mount, Edouard Mendy and N’Golo Kante are all guaranteed to miss out while Reece James will face a late fitness test.

Leeds are on the back of a win against Southampton in the Premier League last weekend and suffered a loss in the cup to Fuham in midweek.

Injury expert Ben Dinnery paraphrased Potter’s press conference quotes on Twitter and wrote, “Thiago will be around six weeks after damaging his MCL. Edouard Mendy making progress following surgery on a broken finger. N’Golo Kante needs time, but he has taken part in his first full training session. Mason Mount is out of the game, and Reece James faces a late test.”

There for the taking?

This Chelsea side is not close to being at full strength and they’re certainly there for the taking.

Not just in terms of personnel, but Potter too isn’t having the best of times at Stamford Bridge and things could go south very soon.

It seems like he is now fighting for his job at the club despite only joining a few months ago on a long-term deal from Brighton.

The gamble clearly hasn’t paid off and it remains to be seen whether Leeds and Javi Gracia can inflict further misery on him.

Leeds need the three points just as badly as Chelsea do as they’re fighting a relegation battle and teams around them may leapfrog them over the weekend.

Hopefully, they come away from their travels to Stamford Bridge with at least a point as they’ve played well in both games under Gracia.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
